january 2010

My Dear Friend and Fellow Member,

January is a powerful time of year. I've always loved the week between Christmas and New Years as well, considering it a time to let go of the old and move into the future. "Before we can receive something which is truly new, we have to let go of that which is old," is the message in the Parables. In the old days when I lived in California and would come back to Ill. for Christmas, I would return to LA before New Years - not because I had a hot date, but to spend at least 3 days in silence - contemplating the year coming to a close and planning for the next.

The first days of a New Year are also important, as they set the tone for the year. Which ever days we choose to use are Holy Days, sacred days in which to honor ourselves, and our Divinity. January is a natural time of reflection.

As I reflect on our past year together, I am filled with a sense of warmth and appreciation for the love and support of our members. 2009 was challenging for many of us with regard to health, relationships, employment and finances, as it related to ourselves or our loved ones. Like others we felt the pinch of belt tightening. And always Spirit provides – our members continued to support us.

I received many notes and cards in which you shared your cares and concerns as well as your accomplishments. During my darkest moments immediately following my husband’s accident I was supported by your love and prayers and throughout the year by your encouragement and gratitude. It is true that we Do Not need to receive accolades from others to feel validated in our work. Yet, it still feels good and is appreciated. It is as powerful a feeling to be at the giving end of prayer as being the recipient of prayer. Some of you are already aware that the one offering the prayer and healing energy receives the benefits of their work as well as the individual for whom the payer is intended. The reason for that is simple. When we pray, we are connecting in Mind with the Infinite Presence and we are therefore transcending time and space. Time, space and dimension as attributes of the physical world, not of the Absolute. We are at once both the giver and the receiver of the prayer spoken and felt. Many of our members found employment, re gained health and vitality, healed relationship issues, were caring for loved ones, and passed qualifying examinations.

An important thing to remember about Prayer, it ALWAYS works. And, it frequently does not look like you expect it to. Sometimes it looks like you have created a mess - your world appears to have been turned upside down and you find yourself saying: “this doesn’t work.” This is when you must remember, Prayer ALWAYS works. Things are not falling apart, they are falling into divine order. Before the Universe can bring you what you want, the old must be torn down. If you are holding on too hard, it appears as if it is being ripped away from you. God is always on your side. The journey is part of your answered prayer.

In April we introduced the Unexpected Income Program. Based on the tithes we received from the program from April through December - a period of only nine months - the average unexpected income received was $822.87 per person. The results have been wonderful. So good as a matter of fact, that we will be doing it again in 2010. A brochure is included with this mailing. Mail the form back to us and I will treat daily for your Unexpected Income. You are also to read daily the prayer treatment which is in the brochure. All members of our Society will benefit to the degree they are ready and willing to accept. Our consciousness is contributing to the shift that is being felt in the world today.

There is a poem I‘d like to share with you that sets the tone for entering the new year. It’s by that wonderfully prolific author - Anonymous - and it goes like this:

I am the new year.
I am an unspoiled page in your book of time.
I am your next chance at the art of living.
I am your opportunity to practice what you have learned
during the last twelve months of your life.

All that you sought the past year and failed to find is hidden in me;
I am waiting for you to search it out again and, this time, with more determination.
All the good that you tried to do and didn't achieve last year is mine to grant –
providing you have clearer intention and fewer conflicting beliefs.
In me lies the potential of all that you dreamed but didn't dare to do,
all that you hoped but did not perform,
all that you prayed for and did not yet experience.
These dreams slumber lightly, waiting to be awakened by
the touch of an enduring purpose.
Yes, I am the new year.

January is appropriately named for the Roman God, Janus. Janus is portrayed with two faces symbolizing the two faces of a door. One side shows where we've been and the other where we are going. Each year we stand at the threshold of the year. What we are today is the result of our past thoughts. The answer to what we shall be tomorrow is contained in what we are now thinking.

There is no way you can move into the future, unless you let go of the past.

We can not bring newness into our lives, when we are hanging onto the past. Consider the trapeze artist performing at the circus. He or she must let go of one bar before they can grab the next. You can let go of the old and allow a new you to come forth.

One of the most important things for us to remember is that we are always causing something to be created in our life. To put it another way: we are standing on the threshold of tomorrow. The door of opportunity swings both ways - forward and back - and the handle is on the inside! Our thoughts are always creating our future. Thoughts cause our beliefs - even our unconscious hidden beliefs - and our beliefs act as a filter for the effects and opportunities. That is, our beliefs are responsible for what we attract and can keep us from seeing that which is in front of us.

Imagine yourself - like Janus - looking backward, and forward to the future. Sometimes when we look back we see only our mistakes. The older we are the more serious our mistakes seem to be. Sometimes it feels like the end of our world and we want nothing more than to escape.

Richard Bach in Illusions reminds us that:

"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls a butterfly"

Whatever it is you think, say or do reverberates around the globe affecting every living thing. You were born to express a unique aspect of the Divine Presence on Earth and you have a special mission that only you can achieve.

January is a good time to clean up our past - what we did; didn't do; should have done, did poorly or wrongly. Releasing old outdated thoughts, ideas, and things in our life is as important as cleaning up the clutter in our lives. You can release these by writing them on a piece of paper - even toss it into a fire if you like.

Once you have let go of the old, it is time to look at what it is you want for the coming year.

Imagine yourself one year from now - in the last calendar day of 2010 - looking back on the days, weeks, and months between then and today. Don’t limit yourself one iota, see in all, all that you can imagine. Describe to yourself in one sentence how it feels to be living the reality of your desire. Write that one sentence down on a card. Now hold the card in your hand. Take a deep breath letting it flow into your heart center. Take another deep breath allowing your breath to open the heart still further. Place the card over your heart while you symbolically place your intention on the altar of Love that abides in your heart. Allow the Light to shine on it. See it nestled in Love. Do this for a couple of minutes. Place that card in an envelope and put it someplace safe where you will easily find it again six months from now. Or address that envelope to yourself and give it to a friend asking them to mail it to you in six months.

The year just ended has many people feeling dissatisfied with where they are in life. This collective dissatisfaction could be a major contributing factor in what is happening in our world today. I believe that before we can begin something new we must prepare ourselves by becoming complete with our present and our past - - - But not so full of it that we have no room left for the new. When we rush from one project or one activity to the next without savoring the moment we are incomplete. By savoring the moment we can allow ourselves to be filled with the essence of it yet — not so satisfied or full that there is no room for more.

Lack of completion in any area of our life takes energy away from us. A person who has mastered the skill of being complete about everything as it occurs is someone who has virtually boundless health and energy. Their juices are not being sucked up by the unknown.

Some examples in our live which may need completing:

*People we have not said I love you to - and want to;
*A person with whom we have not made amends for wrongs we may have done.
*Taxes unpaid.
*Not stopping someone from saying things that hurt you
*Doing something you considered wrong or not right
*Not going for a goal you really wanted but were afraid to go for.

I facilitated a workshop recently to help Jump Start the new year. One of the exercises we did and I would like to suggest you consider, is to make a list of 50 things you are not complete with in your life. Take for instance the tasks around your home or office. If you have to pass an unfinished kitchen, or the picture that still needs to be hung -- anything that needed to be done a while back; every time you see it or pass it un noticed, it takes your focus - and what we focus on increases! This is taking away from your creative energy.

An indication of being incomplete is feeling - REGRET; REMORSE; SHAME; ANGER; DENIAL and continuing SADNESS. Confucius once said, "to be wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it."

If you are feeling stuck in your life, you have got outmoded ideas and beliefs that continue to plague you which it would serve you to let go. I call this Emotional Trash. Do not recycle your emotional trash. Emotional trash is based on out old beliefs that usually come from family, friends, and the collective consciousness. Remember however, to be extra kind to yourself, for this will involve some forgiveness work.

Balance the Emotional Trash by reflecting on the positive aspects of the year just ending. You may want to journal on some self reflection questions, such as:

What did I learn this year?
What have I gathered this year? Such as ideas, stuff,
What gifts visible and invisible came to me this year?
What were the fruits of my labors?
What did I learn about God and myself - this may be things I thought I had already released.

Clearing away the old, both the positive and the not so positive is extremely important. In some cases you may only be able to write a letter or journal to the person with whom you are incomplete. It is your intent that is important here. Do remember to love yourself as the Infinite loves you. Be kind and gentle to yourself.

Now that you have begun to clear away the old, it is time to look forward and focus on the creating the new. Focusing on the new is the more fun part.

In order to demonstrate satisfaction, we must have a concept of the Divine that satisfies us. What is it that you belief about God? Do you believe that all things are possible? What is your understanding of Theological Science and how it can work for you? Begin to write down, in your own words what you believe to be True about: God, Yourself, Love, Law, Life, Work, and Success.

This seems a good place to review some of the teachings and doctrine of Theological Science as described by Dr. Carruthers and included in the monthly letter from April of 2007.

Theological Science is a nonsectarian, philosophico-religious doctrine, which embraces the basic philosophy of every other known religion on the earth. It teaches One “God,” as The Infinite Omnipresence, or Supreme Presence-Power, in and of the Universe, as known by and reflected in Universal Law, or Cause and Effect; and advocates a course of conduct in accordance with the teachings of the Masters of the ancient Wisdom (the best known of Whom was The Master Immanuel, Who was Christed because of His profound Knowledge and ability; and known to the Christian world as “Jesus”).

In addition, It recognizes a Law-governed Universe, and the wisdom of a scientific approach to, and understanding of, that Universe and Man’s relationship to it. It has no quarrel with the natural sciences, and eagerly awaits each new discovery of the best scientific mentalities as they probe deeper and deeper into the hidden secrets of Nature. Some of the principles which this concept is based are these:

THE UNITY OF ALL LIFE. The Masters of the Ancient Lodge of Mystics have always taught that everything, of whatever nature, can be analyzed back into One ultimate Substance. Physics and Quantum Physics substantiates this claim. The different manifestations are but the results of different rates of vibration or number of electrons and protons in the make-up of the atoms comprising the object being investigated: mineral, vegetable, animal.

There is no basic difference between Mind and matter, the degree of density constitutes the basis for different results. Man, being conscious, and aware of his Consciousness, is capable of appreciating his potential power to acquire dominion over all that which has not attained self-consciousness. The spiritually awakened man or woman is aware of their superior power and intelligence beyond the ability of those through self-conscious, are unaware of their own innate, inherent, inner mind-power.

Speaking of the Unity of all Life, there are many people the last couple days feeling sorrow and concern for the people of Haiti as a result of the recent earthquakes. If you are following the reports on television, the pictures tear at our hearts and we literally feel their distress. This is because we are all connected and there is a Unity of all life. We are connected because we are all part of the Universal Mind, Spirit or God or whatever name you prefer.

THE FATHERHOOD OF GOD. Since the earliest conceivable dawn of Consciousness, or since the first thinking individual was able to express himself, man has sensed, or believed in, or conceived of some Superior Power. The Christians call it “God,” the Moslems “Allah,” the Jews “Jehovah,” and by many and varied names by all other religious group. To the Masters of the Ancient Wisdom it is known as “The Infinite Omnipresence,” “Universal Mind,” and “Eternal Law.”

Theological Science does not, because it cannot, believe in a God in the form of Man. We reason that “God” must be the Law by Which the Universe is integrated, controlled, promoted, sustained and maintained in equilibrium, or perfect balance. This stupendous and continuous enterprise - which man can, if he will, measure astronomically - necessarily requires the greatest intelligence and power of which the mind can conceive.

Since we do not know the nature of this innate, inherent, inner mind level, (which is wholly unlike the finite consciousness) we must regard It as the part, or degree, of The Infinite Universal Mind, Which, being omnipresent, MUST BE IN all things and beings in and of the Universe; and we, therefore, are correct in referring to It as Omni-conscious. (All-Conscious)

THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN. This is not only a doctrine of Religion, but a fact in Nature, whether known and applied practically or not. It is one of the orthodox beliefs which the early Church adopted from the ancient teachings of The Masters; which carries over into our modern methods with even deeper import than formerly.

Under the conception of this thought that ALL men (humans) are brothers, we place the emphasis upon ALL, regardless of gender, race, color of skin, nationality, belief, or condition of being. What one of us has known and accomplished, others can know and do.

A LAW-GOVERNED UNIVERSE. We cannot believe in the special intervention of a God of religion “Who” sometimes changes “His” mind to accommodate a favored, or select, group’s, or someone’s, requests when in distress. We maintain that individual distress is of a personal nature, created by the individual, in erroneous, misuse of the Laws governing creative Thought-Power.

We contend that the Universe, or World, is operated, maintained and sustained by a system of Laws as inexorable as the Law of Electricity, or the Law of Mathematics, and that Man must learn these Laws, develop the ability to adjust himself to them, and then make use of, and direct them, in this mentations.

THE LAWS OF CAUSE AND EFFECT. Certain things occur because something makes them take place; in other words, there must be a Cause for every effect. The growing plant is sufficient evidence that at some time a seed has in some way become imbedded in the right element and under conditions suitable to permit that growth. A condition of inharmony is the result of some influence which set in motion those things which make for discord. This reasoning on conditions of the physical body brings us to the appreciation that any maladjustment to life, such as illness of any kind, must be the result of some cause which started it into being. We assert that the right way to remedy the effect is to remove the cause, which we do by instituting another, more desirable cause, in our thinking.

Thus we see that all things and conditions are traceable directly back to Mind. The Mind (or mentality) either consciously or unconsciously, has functioned wrongly and the result is illness. This gives rise to our claim that the healing lies in the power of the Mind which can set in motion those causes that compel health and harmony instead of disease and discord.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND. Because of the recognition of the three-fold nature of man, referred to before, we teach and practice, and prove the nature and power of the subconscious mind in practical application to everyday life and affairs. The most important discovery of all time was the level of subconscious mind, however long before the admirable William James voiced that same Truth, The ancient Masters of The Lodge of Mystics had given that Truth to the world. This subconscious part of the Mind is below the level of Consciousness, and its work, therefore, is carried on without the supervision of the conscious, or directive, thinking mind in such matters as the management of the bodily functions.

The fact that the subconscious is the level, or division, of Mind which supervises the body and its activities, and keeps it in operation - whether the individual is awake (conscious) or asleep (unconscious), proves in this respect an intelligence and power vastly superior to that of the Mind which operates in and through the cortex. (Consciousness)

CREATIVE THINKING. Conscious thought is more powerful than unconscious thought. By use of powerful creative thinking such as affirmations, individuals draw good to themselves. The individuals power to plan constructively, and give directions, is brought into use, and the general directions are then passed on to, or “implanted in,” the subconscious mind level which proceeds to develop them, without the slightest necessity for conscious concern.

These various principles all interlock. The Unity of All Life, The Law of Cause and Effect, and the Triune Nature of Man, are all linked up in the understanding of The Fatherhood of God, or the omnipresence of omniscient Omnipotence, or the Infinite Omnipresence.

ALL IS SPIRIT. Thought is a spiritual activity, and since Thought is the first Cause behind any and every effect or condition, it follows that all things in and of your life and affairs must be spiritual, regardless of appearances. There could not be any line of demarcation between spiritual things and so-called secular things. Matter is but the manifestation, the condensation, of Spirit. The only way we can see God, or The Infinite, is by observing the things of Creation - Sun, Moon, Stars, Earth, mountains, rivers, things and people. Everything, therefore, in existence must consequently be a part of, and of the nature of, God, or The Infinite Omnipresence.

THERE IS NO LIMITATION, save as you may limit yourself in wrong thought. There is no limitation to what an individual can Be, Do, and Have, when he believes in his own possibilities, understands the Laws governing Thought and uses them wisely. You are not bound by limitations of the past. The fact that a thing has never been done before is no proof that it cannot be done when the right Laws have been understood and correctly applied. The history of all invention corroborates this Truth. I place emphasis, however, on the necessity of forming a conscious equivalent for the newly desired Good toward which you reach. Until you are sufficiently “at home” with it in your thinking, to feel that it is yours, in the natural course of events, and mentally adjust yourself to it, you are not ready for it.

My wish for you is that you make 2010 your best year yet! We will continue to share the information and spiritual tools you may find helpful is demonstrating that excellence in your life. I know that as you continue to be supported on your Path, you will support us in our work. For this is how the unity of all life is demonstrated in our experience.

Please join me in consciousness as together we send thoughts and prayers to the people of Haiti in their time of need.

Going to you now are our love and good wishes,

Dr. Hugh G. Carruthers
and
Rev. Anne S. Muelleman

P.S. One of our members, a vocalist, actor and director sent me a copy of his newly released CD entitled "A Christmas Gift". It is incredible, and he is offering our Society a great gift by sending us 50% of each CD sold. What a Christmas gift! You can preview his recording at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/dickpyatt. You may just want to buy one for yourself and a couple more for gifts.
