We are living at a great time in history. We are here today by divine appointment. Because we wanted to be part of that bridge, part of that change. When change happens, we need to be sure that our Foundation is Solid - - like a rock. And so my focus this month is on the aspect or dimension of God that is our solid foundation. It is that essence of God that is personal, that loves us, supports us, uplifts us; that is our source and our supply of All Good as well as that place of Law and Cause and Effect. I want to set the tone today by sharing with you a message from the Essence of God; from the place where there is warmth and color; from that place that is personal. It’s called “An Intimate Message from God to You.” Barry Adams in 1996 heard a still small voice say: "If you put the Scriptures in the right order, they will form a love letter." (Psalms 139:1) Even the very hairs on your head are numbered. (Matthew 10:30) for you were made in my image. (Genesis 1:27) In me, you live and move and have your being. (Acts 17:28) I knew you even before you were conceived. (Jeremiah1:4 5) I chose you when I planned creation. (Ephesians 1:11 12) You were not a mistake, for all your days are written in my book. (Psalm 139:15 16) I knit you together in your mother’s womb. (Psalm 139:13) and brought you forth on the day you were born. (Psalm 71:6) I have been misrepresented by those who don’t know me. (John 8:41 44) I am not distant and angry, but am the complete expression of love. (1John 4:16) It is my desire to lavish my love on you simply because you are my child and I am your father. (1 John 3:1) I offer you more than your earthly father ever could. (Matthew 7:11) for I am the perfect Father. (Matthew 5:48) Every good gift that you receive comes from my hand. (James 1:17) for I am your provider and I meet all your needs. (Matthew 6:31 33) My plan for your future has always been filled with hope. (Jeremiah 29:11) because I love you with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3) My thoughts toward you are countless as the sand on the seashore. (Psalms 139:17 18) and I rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17) I will never stop doing good to you. (Jeremiah 32:40) for you are my treasure. (Exodus 19:5) I desire to establish you with all my heart and all my soul. (Jeremiah 32:41) and I want to show you great and marvelous things. (Jeremiah 33:3) If you seek me with all your heart, you will find me. (Deuteronomy 4:29) Delight in me and I will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4) for it is I who gave you those desires. (Philippians 2:13) I am able to do more for you than you could possibly imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) for I am your greatest encourager. (2 Thessalonians 2:16 17) I am also the Father who comforts you in all your troubles. (2 Corinthians 1:3 4) When you are brokenhearted, I am close to you. (Psalm 34:18) As a shepherd carries a lamb, I carry you close to my heart. (Isaiah 40:11) . . . whoever hears these sayings of mine, and follows them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. (Matthew, Chapter 7). That’s in Biblical terms; now let’s look at it in simple Ancient Wisdom/New Thought (aka Theological Science) terms. Our Theological lessons build our foundation by understanding that the rock on which we stand is our belief system. A belief in the three fold omni nature of God (Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent) and the Law of Cause and Effect. Borrowing from my training as an ordained Religious Science minister, I would say it like this: There is one Power, one Presence, one Life, one Creative Energy, one Essence, one Source and that one is God. There are not two. There is not God AND . . . There is only one! And the attributes and qualities of the One Life are Peace, Power, Love, Joy, Harmony, Order, Abundance, Right Action. And the human corollary to that is that this One and all the attributes of the One are found in each and every one of Its creations that means us. This is the basis of the lessons Dr. Carruthers left us. Hear these words and live by them and you too will be likened to the man who built his house on the rock and when the rains came and the winds blew, the house stood strong because it was founded on the Rock. We are experiencing a time in history when it is imperative for us to have a solid foundation in Truth - we call that our ROCK. Our foundation must be solid and it must be flexible. Kinda like having sturdy sea legs. I relate this to my experience of living in Southern California. Buildings in California are erected to be earthquake proof. That means they are built on rollers - when a quake hits - the building rocks back and forth on the rollers rather than have the top tumble because they was no flexibility at the base. At one time I had an office in Warner Center in what could be described, by California standards as a high rise. It was maybe twenty stories. I shared space on the top floor. On particularly foggy days looking out the window felt like I was residing on a cloud. Very cool! I experienced an earthquake one day sitting in that office on the 20th floor and rather than shake, the office rolled or swayed back and forth. Mind you that Warner Center was in the San Fernando Valley, outside of LA, and the earthquake was in San Francisco! That means that the shock waves moved through the atmosphere and the earth something like 800 miles. We are living in a era of change. Change is going on all around us. And most of our earthquakes today could rightly be called fearquakes. I frequently sense that fear when I talk to friends, neighbors, even strangers at the store and those who come to be for spiritual counseling and prayer. They see and hear talk of recession and a depressed economy and begin immediately to cut back on their plans out of fear. The woman whose appointment is after mine at the nail shop said that her husband told her they needed to cut back and conserve because the company he works for is talking about layoffs in a division unrelated to the one in which he is working. Both she and her husband are in their 40's, have good well-paying jobs and no children or elderly parents to care for and support. Someone else I know took a part time job when her husband’s company began showing signs of a slow down. The fear spreads rapidly through the atmosphere and barrels through the earth aimed at shaking our foundation. Daily we are being called on to hold fast and stand on our rock of Truth. This means taking time each day - maybe more time than we have allowed for or required in the past - time to connect with the Presence of God - to remind ourselves of the Infinite Presence - and to call It forth in our life. I believe it was Depek Chopra who said and I paraphrase: when I have so much to do that I think there is no time to meditate, I need to meditate longer than usual. The business section of my local daily newspaper this past Tuesday had a headline at top of the page “Crystal Lake Circuit City to close”. The article went on to say they “were pulling the plug on about 20% of their stores in an effort to return the nation’s number 2 consumer electronics retailer to profitability.” Below the fold on the same page was another article headline: “Light still shines in dark economic times.” The copy read: “Hopefully you’re not buying into perceptions of the world coming to an end. Look beyond the headlines, there is always a lot happening every day that is good.” The article went on to list 10 things that are happening locally. A few of those things are: new businesses are being created, decline of gas prices, and dozens of shoppers leaving Wal-Mart donated 1,345 pounds of food for the Community Harvest project to support local food pantries. It is our fear which blinds us to our good. I hope you are not buying into the perception of financial struggles and economic insecurity. Our perception is not the truth, it is merely our perception. Keep the rock of your belief in the One that is God at the forefront of your thinking each day. Read your lessons, read other inspirational material and listen to CDs and tapes. Go to church, listen to a sermon on line. Mine are put on my church’s website www.newthoughtmchenry.org each week - listening is free. You can express your gratitude in your regular monthly contributions to our Theological Society Fellowship. Give thanks every day, keep a gratitude journal, send anonymous notes of appreciation. Make every day a day of rejoicing - a Day of Thanksgiving! Dr. Carruthers’ recommendation: When you retire for sleep at the end of your day, you will sleep peacefully if your physical body is relaxed; but if your body is tense it is safe to assume that your nervous system will also be tense. Tonight, then, is a good time to begin to improve. When you retire, divest yourself of any tight fitting garments and lie as comfortably on your bed as possible. [I find it easier to accomplish and stay present in the moment when I do this when sitting in a chair.] In any event, let go of all physical tension. Fix your thought on the relaxation of your whole body; let your shoulders sink downward. Feel yourself fully supported by your chair or the bed, and “let go” of all tension. Speak the following for yourself: I close my eyes and take a deep cleansing breath, inhaling through my nose and exhaling through my mouth. I take three breaths each more deeper than the one before. I exhale with an audible haaaa sound. My shoulders sink toward the earth and settle into greater relaxation. I relax into my inner being moving deeper and deeper in consciousness. It is through the breath that I connect with the Source of my being. With each breath more of The Infinite. Each breath nourishes, natures and fills each cell and atom with loving relaxing energy. When you feel relaxed and at ease, turn your attention to this thought: “ ‘I’ and The ‘Father’ Are One. ‘I’ AM in The ‘Father’ (because of the omnipresence of The Infinite) and The ‘Father’ IS IN me.” The Truth of this is in the fact that God, or infinite Omnipresence, IS everywhere present; interpenetrating all things in and of the Universe while permeating The All - and there could not be any place in, nor part of the Universe where The Infinite is not present; therefore a definite part, or degree, or Infinite Spirituality MUST Be in you as well as about you. This thought, held in conscious awareness of Self, will impress the Truth of your spiritual at-one-ment into your Sub-conscious, and in the same way that any habit is formed, you will soon be habitually, which is to say automatically, acting and living in accordance with your own constructive thought process. You will soon begin to realize Who and What You really Are, and you will form the habit of consciously recognizing the Truth that “I” AM Whole, Perfect, Strong, Powerful, Loving, Harmonious, Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Successful in ALL my Ways.” When you awaken tomorrow morning, let your first thought of the day be: “I thank You, Father that You have heard me, and I KNOW that You hear me and care for me Always, in ALL my Ways.” In about a month, or thirty repetitions of this practice, you will be surprised at how much happier you will Be; how much easier everything seems to Be for you; how much easier you will be achieving and attaining desires - how much more other people will want to help you. The sun will seem to be brighter during every day; and folks will seem to be more agreeable. “As a man thinketh (in his heart, meaning emotionally), so is he.” As you think, so will you Be and Become. No matter how you may have been thinking before, decide to change your thinking and thus your consciousness and you will change your life. Turn and keep your attention only on what you desire. Turn away from thoughts of what you do not want. I picked up one of my favorite books the other day, The Abundance Book by John Randolph Price, it was time again to re read it. In the first paragraph of the introduction I had an Aha moment - a deeper understanding of what I was reading than I have had in the past. This is what the passage said: “the energy of abundance is constantly RADIATING from the Source within and flowing out to appear as money and financial well-being.” In other words abundance does not come TO us but FROM us! One Power, one Presence, one Life, one Creative Energy, one Essence, one Source. There is not God AND something else. There is not God and me. There is only One! The attributes and qualities of God as listed above are: Peace, Power, Love, Joy, Harmony, Order, Abundance, Right Action - and many more. These qualities are part of everything since God is everything everywhere - and therefore exists in me as well. If God is everywhere – God is Everywhere – not everywhere EXCEPT in me. I am not the great exception and neither are you! God Is, I Am. That which I am radiates out “from the Source (God) within.” It flows out - from inside of me to the world in which I live. That means that abundance is within us - as is harmony, joy, vibrant health and loving relationships. And it is expressed in our life by radiating out from us. We don’t catch it. We don’t have to work for it, or earn it, we just have to BE It. That is the Solid Foundation on which we should be building our life. As the popular saying goes... Be the change you want in your life. Recognize and accept this and every day will be a day of rejoicing - a Day of Thanks Giving. We will be celebrating Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, November 27. It is a day of celebration and thanks giving for blessings which we share and enjoy. I shall be offering my thanks for the ability to be able to continue to provide this material and keep the Society going, and for what you and I Are and are Becoming. I shall prayerfully affirm your continued good health, prosperity and happiness in well-being as I do mine. May this Thanksgiving Day prove to be the most enjoyable you have thus far known, and succeed many more year for which to be thankful. Dr. Carruthers’ November 1956 letter included this Thanksgiving poem which he wrote, and which I would like to bring this chat to its natural end. Thanksgiving For all things beautiful, and good, and true; For things that seemed not good, yet turned to good; For all the sweet compulsions of Thy Will That chastened, tried, and wrought us to Thy shape; For things unnumbered that we take of right, And value first when they are oft’ withheld; For Light and Air, sweet sense of sound and smell; For ears to hear eternal harmonies; For eyes to “see” the Unseen in the seen’ For vision of the Worker in the work; For mind to apprehend Thee everywhere’ For sense to Know our at-one-ment with You; For Theological Science, old, yet new - We thank Thee, Lord! H.G.C. God is the silent Power behind all things, always ready to pour into our experience that which we need. The nature of God is Good, is love, and wholeness, and it is available to us if we but allow it to be! It is the Rock upon which we build our Foundation! I send you warm greetings of love an acceptance. As you count your blessings this month, open your heart to receiving the gifts of Spirit which reside in you today, Holding you in God’s love and light, Dr. Hugh G. Carruthers and Rev. Anne S. Muelleman P.S. Please consider some others you may know who could benefit by this Knowledge and refer them to our website, www.theologicalsciencesociety.org From there, they will be able to read the current Monthly Chat letter, request an introductory lesson, enroll in our Fellowship and submit a donation. |
