May is also considered by many the month of creativity as our own lives are likely to also be blooming with new plans and opportunities. That word “opportunities” takes us into the meat and theme of this month’s Chat Letter, which by the way was first written by Dr. Carruthers in September of 1948.
It is important for us to remember that even the apparent upheaval and chaos that appears in our physical world is an opportunity for betterment. Truth is that the Universe is merely setting itself straight and center by rearranging things. It is all a matter of perspective. I realize that it can be difficult to stay focused on our spiritual truth when the evidence in our world is that it is collapsing around us. To grow, to expand, to move forward requires change. And change requires inner confidence, strength and faith. We, the students of Ancient wisdom and metaphysics with our deep understanding are the ones who will be there to assist those who are looking for answers. It is therefore more important than ever that we keep up with our studies and make sure this Fellowship remains active in getting information out to a hungry and thirsty world. To that end your continued financial support is more important than ever. If you are able to increase your support it would be much appreciated. The appearance is that many of our members are either unemployed or facing tough times. In September of 1948, Doctor was responding to inquires from his Chelas or students about how to recognize opportunity when it appears in our life amidst the chaos and confusion that surrounds us. This is what he wrote: Let me try to explain that the very moment you recognize That “I” (Spirit, or Ego, or Omni-conscious Mind) of You as being One with the omnipresent Spirituality, or Mind, of Omnipotence (because of the Inner Presence of a very definite degree, or part thereof) you have definitely established conscious recognition and realization of your true Self; you have discovered the “Secret of the Ages;” you have come into the understanding of the Truth of the philosophy of The great Teacher. You have sought and found “the Kingdom of heaven within,” and you may declare in all Truth: “‘I’ AM That ‘I’.” Yes, it is true as soon as we recognize our oneness, that the Spirit of me is One with the Omnipresence, I am connected and whatever I say, think or feel from this connection will manifest quite quickly as it is being powered from the Infinite. Therefore, every time we say something like: I am hungry, tired, angry, etc., we are affirming and perpetuating a state of being more of what we do not want. What keeps this connection engaged is our constant attention to it. Daily meditation, prayer and silent communion with the Divine keeps us focused on what it is we DO want in our life. You are no longer an entity in existence. You are NOW an “I-D-ified entity; One with The Father (Omnipotence) truly, and since “One” means “Same,” it follows that he was correct in declaring, “Know ye not that ye are gods; ye are the temple of the living God.” Your true Identity is established, and now, instead of trying to express in accordance with what you believe consciously, you will consciously express Your Self - your inner Reality, or Spirituality your “Father within,” your Omni-consciousness, which will rise to your Consciousness at your every expectation. That expression will naturally be outward, or objective. And will be dynamic and magnetic, in your speech and action. Let me advise you that Omnipotence is no personal Deity, yet in Itself It contains all that goes to make up all personality and all human relations. Because of Its omnipresence (just as the life-principle in the air you breathe is omnipresent), all things and beings are IN It. Omnipotence is constantly in evidence in our lives and affairs, and yet the majority have been seeking It here and there and everywhere in the outer, objective, world, asking It to show Itself (or Himself) and prove Its, or His, existence. Well may It, or Him, say to us: “Hast thou been so long time with me, and thou knowest me not?” Or we might listen to Epictetus who said: “You carry your God about with you, and you know it not; for if you knew it, you would open wide the portals and let me see Him (It) in You.” This is the tragedy of life - that the Spirituality of Omnipotence (As the Almighty Power; the Creator, or creative Principle; God) being omnipresent IS WITHIN You, and You know it not; or at least, you do not prove by your attitude that you KNOW It. Omnipotence is ALL that really IS, and all the visible universe and forms of life are Its expression. It is Infallibility, immutability; the supreme Presence-Power, and with understanding It is yours to express in all your ways. THIS, THEN, IS WISDOM! FOR FREEDOM “You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free.” This was a direct assertion that in the understanding of your own Being you would understand the Power within yourself by which, and through the conscious direction of which, you might free yourself from all manner of lack, loss, limitation, fear, worry, discord, illness, misery, suffering, poverty, failure, or other form of distress whatsoever. This Power within you is nothing more nor less than your innate, inherent, inner omni-consciousness (or part of the universally omnipresent Mind of God) which you have but to recognize, and realize, and be consciously aware of, for guidance in all your affairs. Ignorant men have called it “Conscience,” without ever defining It. It has also been referred to as “Intuition,” “the still, small Voice within,” etc. But a “rose by any other name would still be sweet.” FOR HARMONY: you have but to live in harmony with the Law of your Being, within is the expression through the channel of Consciousness, of Omni-conscious Mind within you. Learn to think, and consciously affirm, your spiritual at-one-ment with the Father within: “I am harmonious because I AM NOW thinking and living in harmony with the Law of my Being; the Law of Cause and Effect.” Also, “I NOW create only such causes as will bring about harmonious, desired effects or conditions in my life and affairs.” Repetition of that affirmation will soon become objectified in your conscious life and affairs and, suddenly you are living in perfect harmony. FOR POWER you have but to recognize and realize (consciously) your own inner Power (Mind, expressed as creative energy of Thought). Do not forget for a moment, or shut out, your own Divine Power. Open yourself to It. Invite It into your Consciousness. Expect it. Realize It. In the degree that you recognize and realize It as within you, It will completely interpenetrate and permeate your entire physical body, driving whatever obstructions may be dominating your organism out before It. Herein lies the truth of the statement: “My Words (the Law) are Life to them that find them, and health to all their flesh.” In the degree that you realize this Oneness and WHOLENESS, THIS Power for abounding health and strength within your body, in that degree you will carry It to all with whom you come in contact. In short our consciousness of this Truth is the Source of our Power. With God there is always a majority. FOR ACTION you have but to determine the path you want to go, and then go it alone until you are the success you want to be; then you can help others to walk the same path. Never tell anyone about what you are doing. If you are developing, others will notice it. An action is required on our part. The first action is ‘to determine the path’ as Doctor says. This means we need to make a decision, to make a choice. Not making a choice is the decision to not move forward. It is true we do not want to share our new path with others as this can dissipate our energy and work against us. However, I also stronger believe it is advisable to seek support and guidance from a prayer partner or practitioner. I could not continue on without their support and ability to know the Truth and give me Light, when my own is dimmed. FOR RESULTS you MUST have a Faith, and if Faith is developed and realized in ONLY one way - by actual knowledge - never by blind belief. If you cannot accept these ancient Wisdom truths, then do not do so. You are not asked to believe any part, or all, of this instruction. It is suggested, rather, that you will do well to refuse to believe anything until that thing has been proved to your complete satisfaction. Therefore, it is suggested that instead of believing these truths, you practice for the ability to apply them as principles in your own everyday life and affairs - in all your thinking and doing. The results will be all the proof you will need. When the applications of these truths produce results for you, you will have proved to your own satisfaction that they work. If a principle will work for you it is of great value, and you will apply it in your future thinking and action at any time, anywhere, under any conditions, for successful achievement -over and over again. For instance, to consciously pray to your God, or some character, as a saint or lesser god, for the granting of a petition, or the attainment of some desire, is to consciously express lack, loss, and limitation in your thinking. To be conscious of lack, loss and limitation is to be negative. Your attention is on the lack of what you want and feeling the loss of being without it when you are praying or asking or begging for your good. In actuality, you are creating the spiritual pattern of lack and the Law of Cause and Effect compels the condition commensurate with your negative mental attitude. As you think, so will you be. What you create in your thinking will be materialized in your life and affairs. The correct application of the principle of creative thinking is the opposite. You recognize and realize the omnipresence of the Creative Principle, or spirituality of God which must be, in part, or degree, within you as your Spirituality or Mind. Within you then, NOT OUTSIDE OF YOU, is your Intelligence and Power to create “what thing soever you desire, when you pray.” In your application of the principle your prayer is not asking, petitioning, pleading or begging the God-Power of the universe but, rather, affirming the reality or actuality, of your purpose or desire when you visualize as a mental picture, the object or your desire. In your realization of the creative power of thought, your mental picture immediately becomes the mold, or matrix, or pattern of your desire, and since you then have that mental pattern already established in your Mind, you CAN BELIEVE that you already have it. This is the Law. This is the correct interpretation of, “Thy Father knoweth thy needs before you speak them; why will you ask of Him?” FOR OPPORTUNITY it is only necessary to realize the fact that there are numberless things yet for Faith and Understanding to perform or invent; numberless heights to be scaled, which are considered impossible by the masses. When you consider that about two percent of the race are successful in the enjoyment of good things of life, while about ninety-eight percent are suffering all manner of lack and limitation, misery, poverty and failure, you will have a fair idea of the truth that there is plenty of room at the top for one brave enough to pay the price for the Success he desires and the price is in attention and effort in Personal Development Now. If you will develop the Will to endure and continue one more step, one more minute, one more trial, beyond the breaking point, you become at once an unconquerable Success. I recall Doctor saying there is nothing new under the sun. As a mature adult I understand that better than I did as a child. God, Universal Intelligence, Infinite Presence, Spirit, etc. is All That IS. The full potential of ALL THINGS exists in the Mind of God. When we are in alignment and One With that Presence, we have access to that potential or to that part of It to which we are placing our attention. For instance, everything means absolutely everything and that would include big game animal hunting or wrestling, neither of which I have any interest whatsoever and would therefore not be something to which I would turn my attention. FOR SUCCESS? You are constantly dealing in one way or another, with human beings like yourself. Whatever of success you may achieve, or know, must come to you from, or through, others. Every impression which comes to your Consciousness, from without - from the objective world of humanity, is the result of the thinking of another. You must be careful how you accept and receive and consider all such impressions, and knowledge. Knowledge comes to us from the thoughts of others. What man calls “education” is merely borrowed knowledge. You must learn to develop NEW Knowledge as a result of your own creative thought processes carefully controlled. Knowledge is not power. Contrary to the old adage that “knowledge is Power,” there is no power nor value in mere knowledge. The Power and value of knowledge is in the results secured by the application of the principles of the knowledge you imagine you have. The principle Thing is Wisdom; therefore get Wisdom; and as Solomon so ably said it, (see Proverbs 4:7): “with all thy getting, get UNDERSTANDING.” While knowledge comes to us from the thoughts of others, Wisdom engages our Conscious plane of mentality from WITHIN (never from without), from the Omni-consciousness, or great Mind Center, the Ego, or Spirit which is your part, or degree, of the universality omnipresent Mind of God, or Omniscience. Success is the result of Wisdom applied to the affairs of life by the one who has learned to be helpful to others, a willing servant of humankind. Help others and they will help your in your success. You cannot expect to run fast until you have learned to stand erect from your creeping position. First the simple effort; then the greater. How can you expect to develop a healthy body, a sound, firm Conscious mentality, a true and certain spiritual expression, and become an Initiate, and Master of Self, if you will not give the time and effort necessary to your own growth and development. Take time each day for your own spiritual practice. This could include quite time for contemplation and meditation, plus any of the following: spiritual reading (such as your lessons) gratitude, chanting, prayer, journaling, or yoga. It is a Practice and a Discipline to be done at least once daily. I recently read a suggestion for the busy beginner who can find no time: take one minute each day to call in the sacred by lighting a candle and give thanks for the good that will flow into your life that day. You would be establishing a sacred time of awareness. In time it would naturally expand to five minutes then, ten and eventually 30 minutes or more each morning. The point is to begin.
